The Boar’s Head
Once considered a rare delicacy, the boar’s head was a traditional first course of any great Christmas feast. Even so, it seems that it was more a symbol than an actual source of food. No matter how large the feast, guests were usually served with only one.
The tradition of the boar’s head originates from Scandinavian legend: In Valhalla, the Norse warrior’s heaven, every day was spent in combat. Come night fall... all fighters’ wounds would be healed and they then would feast on the great boar.
