‘And the rain descended, and the floods came,
And the wind blew, and beat upon that house;
And it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.’

                                                     -Matthew 7:25
If you are shrewd and want to live
In a strong enduring dwelling place
That shrugs off shrilling easterlies,
Safe from the snarl of ocean’s waves
Don’t build it on a mountain top
Exposed to driving southern winds
Nor on dry sands that shift and drop
Beneath the pressure of the weight.
Shun beautiful but risky sites
And build it lower down on stone;
Then even if a thunderous cyclone
Rips up the sea and makes it writhe
Rooted in your tranquility
Secure behind your sturdy walls
You’ll live in peace contentedly
And chuckle at the vicious squalls.
